U13 2 v Ashton 1

A much better effort and performance compared to last week.

The boys were up for it from the start, with particularly Jack, Jez and Liam getting amongst the opponents.

Archie was running well upfront and caused problems with his speed.

The game was end to end with Ashton giving as good as they got and they created the first couple of chances.

When we got into Ashton’s area they closed us down well restricting our shooting chances. In fact it was from one such block that we scored our first goal – Nick’s shot was blocked and went out to the right for Liam, who had come forward from right back, to hit a fantastic shot past the keeper who had no chance.

HT 1-0

We asked the boys to keep talking and to try and use the width of the pitch more in the 2nd half.

They were doing this well, when a mistake at the back gave Ashton a throw in, they passed the ball back and they hit a great goal from the edge of the box. 1-1

We wondered if the boys heads would go, but they redoubled their efforts and created a number of chances with crosses across the box which we couldn’t get a foot to.

Eventually the pressure told with Archie bundling a cross into the back of the net 2-1.

Luke and Tom were doing very well at the back clearing up most of Ashtons attacks.

We managed to hold on for a great 2-1 win, with all the players contributing.

A close call for MOM between Liam and Luke with Luke just shading it.

Final Score 2-1
