U13 5 v Horwich 0

This was an excellent performance against one of the top teams in the league.

The boys were everything that they weren’t last week against Hindley – they were committed, first to most balls, communicated and took their chances.

The first half was very tight with play from end to end. We took the lead when a shot from Jez was blocked by the keeper and Mike followed up to put the ball in the net.

Adam made some good saves, with both the numbers 18 and 15 for Horwich playing well. Jack in the centre of midfield was playing well and getting the ball forward to Myles and Mike at the earliest opportunity – both of whom were proving a handful for the Horwich back 4.

Archie used his speed to good effect and put in a number of accurate crosses.

Towards the end of the half Horwich had a lot of pressure, but the back 4 managed to keep them out. HT 1-0

It was important that the boys got the first goal in the 2nd half – which Myles did, lashing in a shot in the box – it was fully deserved for his all round play.

Nick then hit a free kick from the edge of the box into the top right hand corner of the net to make it 3-0.

Matthew and Michael who had come on a subs were playing well, with Matthew scoring the next goal – reacting first to a loose ball in the box.

Horwich had their moments in the 2nd half, hitting the post and shooting wide on a couple of occasions, but we managed to stop them from scoring.

Nick finished the scoring with a great shot from outside the box hitting the back of the net.

All the boys played well and fully deserved the win, with Jack getting the MOM.

Final score 5 -0.
