U13 6 v Wigan Rangers 0
This was a good performance on a very big pitch, with a strong wind blowing.
We started off very well, with almost constant pressure on the Wigan goal – playing against the wind they found it difficult to get out of their own half.
Like our other games we had the best of the play yet couldn’t convert it into goals. Mike hit the post twice, Tom the crossbar and Reece just wide on a couple of occasions – we thought that it was going to be one of those games.
Eventually we found a breakthrough with Nick drilling a low shot from the edge of the box into the corner of the net 1-0.
This was quickly followed up by Archie who had come on as sub and was using his pace very well scoring with a shot at the near post.
HT 2-0
We were worried at half time that Wigan would come back at us with the advantage of the strong wind and asked the boys to play in a certain way – they did this very well.
Mike B was working very hard and causing Wigan’s defence problems with his direct running.
Michael came on as a sub and virtually scored with his first touch, when Mike layed a ball into his path which Michael finished very well. 3-0
Archie had a couple of chances, hitting the post and the goalie making a good save.
Mike then put the ball into the back of the net, which his play deserved, unfortunately the ref had already stopped play back down the pitch due to an injured player.
The 4th goal was well scored by Archie who ran straight through the defence to shoot past the goalie.
Michael then scored virtually a carbon copy of his first goal to make it 5-0.
Jez who was playing strongly as usual scored the 6th with a shot inside the near post, that initially we all thought had hit the side netting – still don’t know how he got the angle.
Overall a good performance in difficult windy conditions.
MOM – Mike B – worked very hard and caused the Wigan defence all sorts of problems all day.
Final Score 6-0
