U14's 0 v Ashton Athletic 9
Billinge started well with several new signings in the close season with the
rump of this team having played in the stronger Craven Minor League last
season and composed of a number of the new boys from Winsfield Rangers.
Physically dominant but technically still short Billinge conceded a scrappy
first goal as they failed to clear a corner and the ball was stabbed home
from close range.
The second arrived ten minutes later and was the result of good work by
Ashton down the right . 2-0 at half time.
Billinge were competimg in all areas of the pitch but simply could npt
control the ball in Midfield when in possession to craft decent
opportunities for Rooke playing the lone striker role up front.
After a defensive mix up between the two centre backs and the keeper it was
3-0 and Billinge threw on Kempsell and Clarke.
Ashtons fourth was also gifted as the two Billinge centre backs pushed up
and left Ashtons pacey forward with a run through on goal to make it 4-0 and
number 5 resulted from a ball in behind Glover who was caught napping for a
jubilant hat trick for the Ashton forward.
This is an entirely new Billinge team who will get much better but at the
moment they all need time and some boys will push for places in the Craven
Minor Leage squad....
Man of the match - Mike Jones - Great Corners and work rate. Well done.
