BILLINGE FC

U13's 6 v Hawkley 1

This was the fourth game of the Season against Hawkley and it went the way of the other three despite Barron being absent and a half fit Frederick coming on at half time for 20 minutes. The Hawkley frustration showed itself just before half time and that soured what otherwise should have been a nice game of football on a lovely day.

Billinge were 1-0 up after 4 minutes as Sinnott picked up a half cleared ball from his own free kick, rounded his man and sent a lovely flighted ball into the box, which Rooke delicately flicked over the keeper from 8 yards. A minute later it was Leyland’s turn as he fired over the bar having been put clean through by Bradshaw. Billinge went 2-0 up after 22 minutes after a great run down the right from Sinnott and a well angled cross saw Leyland’s cushioned half volley sail over the keepers head into the net. The killer third goal came on 28 minutes from Rooke again as he met a perfect Bradder’s cross to beat Hawkley’s giant centre back to the ball to head home.

Hawkley’s first shot of the game came 2 minutes later from distance easily parried by Ryan. There was still time for Leyland to have another attempt after a perfect Sinnott through ball saw his shot over the bar. At 3-0 at half time and looking comfortable Frederick came on for Rooke and Deano for Leyland.

The second half started brightly as a perfectly flighted Sinnott free kick saw Bibby steal in at the far post and his bullet header from 10 yards broke the roof of the net past the despairing dive of the Hawkley stand in keeper.

There then followed a 5 minute rally by Hawkley where they hit the post but Billinge bounced back as man of the Match Bradshaw saw Frederick in acres of space as Hawkley tired and he had an age to fire a low shot to the keepers right into the bottom corner for his first goal since returning from injury after 46 minutes. Two minutes later it was Fredders again as he fired a shot in from distance which was well saved by the Hawkley keeper. Hawkley got a consolation goal four minutes later as the ball was played into the box and their centre forward nipped in to score past Ryan also starting his first game for a month in goal after injury.

There was still time for the goal of the game as Deano found himself unmarked from a Bradshaw through ball some 30 yards out and lobbed the keeper who was off his line amid wild celebrations.

With Westhoughton beating Golborne and a draw against Westhoughton in the next game enough to take the League title or a win at home to Horwich if not the following Thursday, the boys are now well up for the challenge ahead.
