Golborne 1 V Billinge Juniors 3
At 1-0 down at half time but with numerous half chances and misses on the Golborne goal, and the final ball into the box not being of sufficient quality to create decent chances it took a half time message of patience both in terms of the game and the final pass into the box to turn the game Billinge’s way.
The first half opened with Golborne in the ascendancy with a shot from distance well saved by Ryan after 5 minutes. After 12 minutes Golborne were rewarded for their pressure, when their forward pushed Tom off the ball and swept the shot wide of Ryan to make it 1-0. After that it was almost one way traffic for the rest of the Match with first Frederick well marshalled by Golborne’s Captain going close after a Deano flick on and then Deano himself heading wide after an excellent Bradbury delivery.
Six minutes later Frederick released Leyland, who with plenty of time and space wide right blazed the ball over when an extra touch would have produced a strike on goal. After 37 minutes a Bradbury corner was somehow scrambled clear of the six yard box and Sinnotts follow up was well saved by the Golborne keeper from distance. And so it stayed at 1-0 at halftime……. Somehow!!
The second half started as with the first with a Bradbury looping header from the edge of the box headed out from under his own cross bar by the Golborne Captain who was excellent today. It was Bradbury again after 41 minutes with a shot just over from the left of the box after his own corner (one of 7 today) was cleared.
Two minutes later it was Owen whose excellent cross to the near post was narrowly missed by Frederick. The equaliser finally came from Frederick after a shot in was mishandled by the Golborne keeper from inside the box and it trickled over the line as Leyland followed in.
This let the floodgates open now as a Bradbury shot on 63 minutes was dropped by the Golborne keeper and then Frederick followed in to ram the ball home gleefully. Quick thinking by Frederick two minutes later from a free kick, with the coaches dumbfounded, saw his early pass release Leyland who simply waltzed clear of the static Golborne defence to finish wide of the keeper and make all three points safe.
Billinge stay top of the League on goal difference and the boys are now both beginning to believe more and more in themselves as well as show what spirit they have to continue their 12 game unbeaten run.
