BILLINGE FC

Hawkley V Billinge Juniors Result WON 1-5

The day was sunny the pitch was still wet and muddy and so very little quality football was played today. Hawkley were much better than they were when they lost 11-2 earlier in the season as expected, given their recent results against Springview and Westhoughton.

Billinge started brightly kicking up hill into the sun with Rooke winning a corner and Bradshaw’s header went wide, then a minute later Frederick cut in from the right and shot and as the ball was going wide Rooke stretched but could not connect with the ball after good work by Owen. Against the run of play Billinge went  1-0 in this game after Ryan lost the ball in the sun and allowed the ball to creep in at the far post after a tame shot from Craig after an excellent run went in from the edge of the area. This galvanised Billinge further as Frederick then Sinnott shot with the Hawkley keeper, who was the best player on the pitch today, making two saves in the space of a minute.

It was left to Rooke to get the first goal after he turned smartly in the box after a Sinnott corner was half cleared by the Hawkley defence to make it 1-1after 14 minutes.  The goal of the game came some four minutes later as a free kick was won 25 yards out and Frederick played the ball back to Sinnott who unleashed a rocket onto the top left hand corner to allow Billinge to take control of the game.

Ten minutes later after yet another corner was won Sinnotts delivery was headed down by Frederick to Bradbury who rifled the ball home via a sea of bodies to make it 3-1.  Two minutes later Rooke won the ball in midfield and released Frederick whose drive to the near post was pushed into the side netting by the Hawkley keeper. Two minutes later Owen sent a peach of a ball into the box onto Fredericks chest after a determined run going through three tackles and the resultant volley was parried round the post by the excellent Hawkley keeper. Hawkley replied with a corner two minutes later and as the ball fell at the far post Ryan had to move across his goal quickly to save with his feet.

At 3-1 at Half Time the game was still now won and the boys started the second half as the first had finished as Rooke again won the ball in midfield and flicked the ball into Frederick’s path but Frederick shot wide. Seven minutes later Sinnott’s flick goal wards produced another great save by the Hawkley keeper. Two minutes later a Sinnott corner was delivered right onto the head of Bradshaw whose finish was too good for the keeper. Ten minutes later it was Bradshaw again as he cut inside the right hand side of the box and unleashed a drive into the bottom left hand corner to make it 5-1.

All that was left was a Bradders’ miss from a yard out when it was easier to score and the points were secured to take the unbeaten run to twelve games.
